Do you know what this is? This, dear people, is the Mockingjay Pin that Katniss wears during the Hunger Games. (Okay, so it's not the actual Mockingjay Pin she wears, but it's close enough! ^_^)
Megan and I had the amazing chance to go see The Hunger Games for it's first public North American Imax showing - phew, that's a mouthful! Needless to say, the line-up was huge! We even showed up super early in hopes of avoiding a massive line. But no-sir! We ended up waiting in line forever anyway. The theatre made it worth the wait though. They gave out these pins and gave away prizes before the showing!
The funny story behind my pin? While we were waiting in line, we decided that Megan and Danielle, one of our other friends, would wait in line while Perin, another friend, and I would head out for food to bring back (we weren't planning on missing supper!) So while I was gone getting important foodz for us, they handed out these pins. Megan, not wanting to upset me about missing out on an awesome Mocking Jay pin, never mentioned this to me at all when I returned. Of course, I noticed everyone was wearing pins, but I thought that everyone had bought them. It was only when a theatre worker asked if everyone was enjoying their gifted pins that I realized I had missed out! Megan said that there were only about 100 pins to giveaway, so only so many people got them. I was actually heartbroken, but determined to get my own.
So right before the movie started, I approached the theatre manager (who was watching all of us in anticipation waiting for the movie to begin) and asked him, just to make sure Megan wasn't wrong, if everyone had gotten a pin. He replied that while most people got pins, there weren't enough for everyone. I think he knew where I was going as he asked me why. I then told him the story about going to get food for the group while my friends waited in line, and he proceeded to take the pin from his tie and hand it to me. All he said was "Enjoy" with a sincere smile. I about died. I was so, so thankful! I think I even jumped up and down a bit, hahaha :) He definitely knew I appreciated it!
Megan just laughed at me, but that is to be expected.
The movie itself was AMAZING of course! I felt like they stayed true enough to the book without being too, too violent for children. I know they wanted to keep it as PG-13 as possible. Kind of a hard task, if you ask me, considering the nature of the novel. But they did a good job. I LOVED the cinematography. It was absolutely breathtaking. I can't count the number of times I was just in awe visually! Everyone needs to go see this film - if you've read the books and even if you haven't! You definitely won't regret it!
Happy Hunger Games everyone, and may the odds be ever in your favour! ;)
