In My Mailbox (5) | April 1, 2012

In My Mailbox is a weekly meme held at The Story Siren. You simply share the books that you purchased, borrowed, or received in the past week! :)

Before I start talking about the books I've got, I just want to point out that I have an absolute obsession with everything Hello Kitty ♥! This is one of my favourite mugs, and it just so happens that Megan has one too! (We're both obsessed!) :)
Okay, so needless to say all of these books are promising! I've heard such good things about some of them! Let's start from the top:

The Robe of Skulls by Vivian French
I'm loving the cover of this book! It definitely caught my eye in the store, which is why I picked it up in the first place. The plot just added to my curiosity and need to read it!

The sorceress Lady Lamorna wants a skull-studded gown of deep black velvet but finds her treasure chest empty of gold. That doesn't stop her from kidnapping, blackmailing, and using more than a little magic to get what she needs. Will all her best-laid plans be foiled by the heroic Gracie Gillypot, two chatty bats, a gallant (if rather scruffy) prince, the wickedest stepsister ever, a troll with a grudge, and some very Ancient Crones?

Cinder by Marissa Meyer
Another gorgeous cover. I was completely drawn to it's beauty when I first saw it. The contrast between the blue and the red, and the black and the white is eye catching and beautiful - and just look at that typography! I love fairytales, so I knew that I would just have to read Cinder at some point! :)

Cinder, a gifted mechanic in New Beijing, is also a cyborg. She’s reviled by her stepmother and blamed for her stepsister’s sudden illness. But when her life becomes entwined with the handsome Prince Kai’s, she finds herself at the centre of a violent struggle between the desires of an evil queen—and a dangerous temptation. Cinder is caught between duty and freedom, loyalty and betrayal. Now she must uncover secrets about her mysterious past in order to protect Earth’s future.

Once in a Full Moon by Ellen Schreiber
I've read the first Vampire Kisses novel and decided to give this series a chance too :) Plus I love the detailing at the bottom of the cover. The branches, the fonts, and the colours are wonderful!

An accessible and clean paranormal series about werewolves--and the popular girl who loves one--from the bestselling author of "Vampire Kisses."

Demonglass by Rachel Hawkins
Picked this up to go with the first in the series :) Loving the covers for this series, as well! They each have this doppelganger/reflection effect!

This is the second in the series, so I don't want to spoil anything! The first is in my TBR pile :)

Blood Red Road by Moira Young
I was a little disappointed that this cover didn't come in hardcover, but I'll be travelling this summer so I guess it will be easier to carry around with me! I absolutely adore this cover. If you know me, you know I love photography, and this cover art is just amazing! The typography matches it perfectly. Love, love, love! And the story? Completely stoked to read it!!

Saba has spent her whole life in Silverlake, a dried-up wasteland ravaged by constant sandstorms. The Wrecker civilization has long been destroyed, leaving only landfills for Saba and her family to scavenge from. That's fine by her, as long as her beloved twin brother Lugh is around. But when four cloaked horsemen capture Lugh, Saba's world is shattered, and she embarks on a quest to get him back.  Suddenly thrown into the lawless, ugly reality of the outside world, Saba discovers she is a fierce fighter, an unbeatable survivor, and a cunning opponent. Teamed up with a handsome daredevil named Jack and a gang of girl revolutionaries called the Free Hawks, Saba’s unrelenting search for Lugh stages a showdown that will change the course of her own civilization.  Blood Red Road has a searing pace, a poetic writing style, and an epic love story—making Moira Young is one of the most exciting new voices in teen fiction.

Wither by Lauren DeStefano
Another gorgeous cover - Definitely a great month for covers, hehe :) This story seems so unique! I'm loving the dystopian stories lately! And once again, I'm a sucker for beautiful photographic covers!

By age sixteen, Rhine Ellery has four years left to live. She can thank modern science for this genetic time bomb. A botched effort to create a perfect race has left all males with a lifespan of 25 years, and females with a lifespan of 20 years. Geneticists are seeking a miracle antidote to restore the human race, desperate orphans crowd the population, crime and poverty have skyrocketed, and young girls are being kidnapped and sold as polygamous brides to bear more children. When Rhine is kidnapped and sold as a bride, she vows to do all she can to escape. Her husband, Linden, is hopelessly in love with her, and Rhine can’t bring herself to hate him as much as she’d like to. He opens her to a magical world of wealth and illusion she never thought existed, and it almost makes it possible to ignore the clock ticking away her short life. But Rhine quickly learns that not everything in her new husband’s strange world is what it seems. Her father-in-law, an eccentric doctor bent on finding the antidote, is hoarding corpses in the basement. Her fellow sister wives are to be trusted one day and feared the next, and Rhine is desperate to communicate to her twin brother that she is safe and alive. Will Rhine be able to escape--before her time runs out?Together with one of Linden's servants, Gabriel, Rhine attempts to escape just before her seventeenth birthday. But in a world that continues to spiral into anarchy, is there any hope for freedom?
